"Stone is like fire: Born in South Africa, Shaine Lewthwaite pursued an education in computer science and entered the busy corporate world in Johannesburg. However, after moving to a small tourist town in the Eastern Transvaal, the influence of art and culture changed her life. Shaine started producing metal art and beadwork which she sold to galleries and shops, finally opening up her own shop supporting local artists and those from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Swaziland. Shaine wanted to learn it all, so she attended a stone sculpting course given by a renowned Zimbabwean stone sculptor. It was at this time that Shaine was first introduced to the ‘wild magic’ of stone sculpting, and found her passion. According to Shaine, "My artwork is inspired by what I have seen or heard; what is embedded in my historic consciousness and sense of ancestry. The African theme denotes my heritage, and I'm intrigued by masks and faces." Shaine is the owner of Sarasvati Fine Arts Gallery in Loveland. Shaine participated in the Loveland Invitational Sculpture Show in 2006. Shaine will be featured on HGTV (Home & Garden) in 2008 doing a segment on stone sculpting.
